Indoor Hall Newsletter »
MOUNT PETRIE BOWMEN INC INDOOR HALL NEWSLETTER With the construction of Mount Petrie Bowmen’s new 30 metre by 30 metre Indoor Hall nearing completion, we are all no doubt looking forward to getting inside and USING it. I know that I am. The Club committee has discussed at considerable length how to manage the usage of the hall. It needs to be used in a controlled manner; after all it represents a significant investment by the club, At this stage we intend to crawl before we walk as it is impossible to predict the demand on its usage. Nothing exists like it, except in Morwell in Victoria, so we have no model we can work with. Grange Company of Target Archers clubhouse and hall, whilst similar, works on a different model to the one Mount Petrie Bowmen has . Building certification should be complete within the next couple of weeks, and it is intended to open it up to Club members once we have that. We expect we will be shooting in it by early November. There will be limited visitor access by non members and anyone wishing to visit will need to be members of AA, ABA or 3DAAA and should contact the club to make arrangements to visit Initially we will be opening the hall for our usual indoor shoot on Tuesday evening. We will also add a second indoor shoot on Thursday evenings. Those taking part in these shoots will need to be at the club by 6.30 pm. The hall will open Saturday mornings and I expect that it will remain open for the rest of the day as long as it is being used, and closing at the conclusion of the outdoor shoot. One of the evening shoots a month will be an indoor QRE. Some of the ideas that are being considered for additional opening times are: Sunday session/s After school hour session/s most likely on the Tuesday and Thursday afternoons leading into the evening indoor shoots But we need suggestions and ideas and we need to know if these additional sessions will have enough people to warrant opening. We can hardly open it for 1 or 2 people. INDOOR HALL OPENING SHOOT Sunday the 4th December will be the date of our official opening. This will be commemorated by an Indoor Tournament and the official opening by our local MP, Steve Kilburn. It should be a great day. Entry will be free and the shoot will be over 2 rounds of 30 arrows each. The 25 metre round will be shot in the morning and the 18 metre round in the afternoon. There will be only 2 divisions, Seniors and Juniors. Cash prizes ($175 for 1st, $150 for 2nd and $125 for 3rd) will be awarded to the seniors, and gift vouchers of the same values to the Juniors. Our sincere thanks to Eagle Archery for sponsoring the Juniors’ prizes. The tournament will be shot using the AA handicap system (GMB score for bow-type, age and gender division), so archers irrespective of age or bow type, male or female, will compete together and have an equal chance of winning. The tournament is open to all members of the Archery Alliance organisations; AA, ABA, and 3DAAA. There will also be a fun shoot which will also have a prize for the winner of each division (Senior Recurve, Senior Compound, Junior Recurve and Junior Compound). This will be a 3 arrow highest aggregate score shot on the FITA field bugs eyes at 30 metres. Entry will be $2 for each 3 arrow attempt and you can enter as many times as you want. You will have to register for the tournament (see below) and I will post more info as it comes to hand. I hope to see you indoors soon Our sincere thanks to our sponsors for this event: Eagle Archery, Pat’s Archery, Abbey Archery, Urban Archery, Darryl Reeks Archery and BAM Garage Auto Mike Cowie President Mount Petrie Bowmen Inc Page down for the entry form Indoor Hall Opening Celebration Indoor Shoot – Dec 4, 2011 This shoot is open to all members of AA, 3DAAA and ABA and will be conducted under the rules of AA ENTRY FEE: NIL Registration prior to Nov 20 is essential Name: ...................................................................................................... Indoor Hall Usage News! »
MOUNT PETRIE BOWMEN INC INDOOR HALL NEWSLETTER With the construction of the Indoor Hall nearing completion, we are all no doubt looking forward to getting inside and USING it. I know that I am. Your committee has discussed at considerable length how we are going to manage the hall and I should say at the outset that we intend to use it in a controlled manner; after all it represents a significant investment by the club, in terms of dollars, effort and time. At this stage we intend to crawl before we walk as it is impossible to predict the demand on its usage. Nothing exists like it, except in Morwell in Victoria, so we have no model we can work with. The other controlling factor is that initially we will be managing the hall ourselves, with members of the committee undertaking to do the opening and shooting control I expect that we should have the building certification complete within the next couple of weeks, and we intend to open it up to Club members once we have that. IMPORTANT NOTICE - To All Archer's »
Dear all, Some of us are still having trouble filling in score sheets. In addition to date, club etc., it is a requirement that all score sheets contain 1. the archer's full first and surname - no initials or nicknames 2. full date of birth - regardless of division. Yes, all 'open' division archers, too 3. the archer's correct division and the actual round shot, such as FITA 90m, FITA 25m Indoor, 145m clout etc. If you are using the AA scoresheet templates, all this requires is a tick in the correct box, and writing the distance/s in where required. For QREs, no AA records can be claimed if a judge is not officiating. The QRE scores will be still be valid if an authorised person is officiating instead of a judge. One last thing, no AA or RGB records can be claimed if the above details are not marked on the score sheet. Terry Donovan 07 3398 4540 terivan5@bigpond.com (mailto:terivan5@bigpond.com)

MT PETRIE BOWMEN - Press Release »
Mount Petrie Bowmen are happy to announce the development of a new Indoor Archery Facility at their Belmont grounds. The Queensland Department of Sport and Recreation has officially advised Mount Petrie Bowmen that it will provide funding to support the development of a new 30 metre by 30 metre by 4 metres high (at the eaves) Indoor Archery Facility at their grounds adjacent to their clubhouse. The cost of construction will be shared between Mount Petrie Bowmen and the Department of Sport and Recreation. Construction is expected to begin in mid February. The some of the existing facilities are to be demolished and the club's indoor and coaching activities have to be temporarily relocated onto the main range during the construction period. It is expected to be completed so that competitors in the National Archery Championships in May will be able to use the facilities for before and after shoot activities during the tournament.
