The Mt Petrie Bowmen Club is the largest Archery
club in South Queensland, Australia and is located
in a bushland setting in suburban south-east
Brisbane. Archery can be enjoyed by everyone. A
sport for all seasons and all people. Join our club
and enjoy social contact with fellow archers as you
discover the pleasures and challenges of this
exciting sport.
Having
a go
It’s
easy! Archery can be as simple or involved as you
wish. Mt Petrie archery club is a good place to
start. We can offer training and advice from
absolute beginner right up to National or
International standard. Our “Come & Try”
days
are perfect for a first go and then you can
advance to the beginner courses run over a
weekend that are held on a regular
basis.
Modern Archery
At
Mt Petrie we cater for all aspects of this age old
sport, from the colour and tradition of target
shooting, to the tranquillity of the field course,
the pleasure of the clout shoot or the excitement
of indoor shooting. Standards of competition and
shooting distances vary to suit all ages and skill
levels. The basic skills of archery, once acquired,
can be extended to meet the various types of
shooting skills required on the Target Range, Field
Course or Clout Ground. All major competitions are
shot on the club ranges and the main facility, the
Hannay Range, is world class standard.
The Ultimate Challenge
Competitive
archery can provide a challenge at State, National
and International levels, with the top archers
aiming for selection in State and National Teams.
Highly sophisticated equipment, developed with
today’s space-age technology, has played a part in
many record-breaking performances at World and
Olympic Championships. However, despite the
revolutionary hi-tech behind this sport, the
ultimate challenge to control the perfect shot
still remain with you.
Beginners Take Note
We often see beginners turn up at the club with archery equipment they have already purchased, sometimes the equipment is fine but sometimes its not. Archery equipment is not cheap, so our best advice is to talk to an experienced archer (you'll find plenty at our club) PRIOR to any purchases and avoid any chance of buying the wrong gear!
